As a response to the specifi c requirements of the bid process, the NYC2012 Olympic plan focuses on two elements – the movement of athletes around the city (the Olympic ‘X’ plan) and the creation and renovation of venues throughout the city for all Olympic Events.
In the light of our system-based understanding of city and body, we as a group attempted to step back from this existing plan and imagine its interface with the present and future of New York City. Focusing on the interaction between the ‘X’ plan and New York City’s infrastructure, we conceived a set of projects to aid the implementation of the plan, and provide a set of subtle shifts and alterations in the fabric of the city that would mend and support the urban landscape for decades to follow.
