Temporary, a Typology

The intent of Temporary: a Typology, is to develop an understanding of architecture and the built environment in reference to time, and in particular, in reference to a discourse of permanence and impermanence, incorporation and disembodiment, place and space. A catalog of types is developed, using a collection of images that represent an attempt at a taxonomy of the gradients and manifestations of impermanence in our physical and visual landscapes, in city life. The temporary emerges in the everyday, but also especially at moments of celebration and destruction, and in commemoration, (that phenomenon which somehow embodies the two.) The project inspires an architecture that has to do with developing a certain way of seeing, with considering the permanence of the seemingly temporary, as well as the temporariness of the seemingly permanent.
